Sourcery for the Oral Historian

Sourcery went on the road this past week to the Oral History Association’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia! While Sourcery does not currently support video or audio files to be sent or received through the app, we can still aid the oral historian in a number of ways.

Sourcery for the oral historian is not so different from Sourcery for the regular historian! Oral historians can find Sourcery helpful to…

  1. Locate background information on people, events, locations, and more. Use Sourcery to locate pertinent information to contextualize your topic. Sourcery is very useful for dipping into different collections from archives and libraries you might not have been able to access previously. Spend less time wondering whether that folder has new information and instead simply request scans from Sourcery!
  1. Get copies of vital records quicker and cheaper than traditional routes. Death, birth, and marriage records are extremely important when conducting research on individuals and their lives. These records can be expensive, confusing, and time-consuming to get copies of them. Use Sourcery to get reference-quality scans of these cornerstone materials without the stress and time sink of going through traditional avenues.
  1. View transcripts of relevant oral histories. Found another oral history that might be relevant to your research? Request the transcript through Sourcery and get a copy sent to you. While Sourcery can’t send audio or video files at this time, we definitely can get you that transcript!
